Before I share what this very senior, well respected male colleague had to say, I will need to provide some essential definitions. First off, he breaks "hot women" down into 4 categories. Don't yell at me because of who is listed in each category - this is his opinion.
1. Kinda hot (Think Jillian, Trista, DeAnna, Ashley from last season)
2. Hot (Ali Fedotowsky)
3. Smokin' hot (Chantal O, Michelle Money)
4. Mind Bending Hot (Level 4) (Emily Maynard, Courtney)
Some further definitions:
"Run of the Mill" psycho - steals something of yours during a makeout so she has an excuse to see you again, calls 10 times a day, texts 20 times a day; calls your mother to kiss up when you've only been out twice; Keeps suggesting plans over and over when you have not called her in a month; Jekyll and Hyde behavior (horribly mean to other females, but sweet as sugar to object of her affection)
"Obvious Rabbit in Pot Fatal Attraction" or "Fatal Attraction" Psycho - the name says it all. Threatens to hurt your family; Kills your pets; Threatens to kill you; Leaves dead wild animals like squirrels outside of your door, etc.
Here is what this person had to say:
A. If the man is looking for a "hot tub chick" then:Bottom line here: If Ben is after a girl he can settle down with or if he just wants to have a good time and enjoy his new found fame a little longer, Courtney, despite her crazy antics, will still be in the running, even if she comes at him with a knife.
1. Kinda hot, Hot and Smokin' hot all trump "run of the mill" psycho, but out of those 3 categories, only Smokin' Hot can trump Obvious Rabbit in Pot Fatal Attraction Pscyho. Mind Bending Hot (Level 4) trumps any level of pscyho even if she is holding a knife like in the Chuckie movies and holds a sign saying "You are next to die."
B. If the man is looking for longer term (i.e., engagement)
1. Run of the mill pscyho and of course Fatal Attraction psycho trumps Kinda Hot, Hot and even Smokin' Hot
2. But if man runs into Mind Bending Hot, see A(1) above. We are very weak.
Do you agree with this theory? If so, are you male?
I must be blind and, well, I'm not a male, so.... but I really don't think Courtney comes even close to "mind-bending hot". Even if she was one of the nice girls in the house, I wouldn't consider her gorgeous. She's pretty, I'll give her that, but not worth over-looking her bitchiness.
ReplyDeleteSounds like the Barney Stinson character on How I Met Your Mother. The male characters on that show have discussed hot/crazy levels in the same manner. Must be some sort of guy speak I am oblivious to.

DeleteI totally agree with Anonymous... Courtney to me is the farthest thing from mind-bending hot - I'd put any of the other women over her in the looks category to be honest. There is something strange about her looks to me... or maybe she reminds me of someone and that factors in - ha ha.

I don't think she's mind-bending hot, but she sure has the sex appeal that men who think with their other head drool over. She's such a snake and any man that falls for someone who's surviving solely on sex appeal can go to hell. This is just a replay of Jake and Vienna! Ugh! Where did all the good men go?
DeleteYears ago, my brother, who dated only women who fitted in to the "hot" category, was finally dating a REAL woman. At one point in their courtship, he said to me, "I don't feel angst all the time - is that bad?" Well, he did marry her and they are still in a great relationship 25 years later. Happily, he had the ability(?) to see beyond the "hotness" of the other women.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the other posters about Courtney. Her body is a bit of a "drink of water" as they used to say. I have occasionally watched Top Model and some of those girls are really fairly homely looking and they photograph beautifully. You can't believe it is the same person. Maybe Courtney is just photogenic.

I've learned that men and women often have very different opinions about whether a particular woman is hot or not. I don't consider Emily or Courtney "mind-bendingly" hot. But I'm a woman who's not attracted to women, so what do I know?
ReplyDeleteAgreed. The only thing I wonder about w/ Emily is whether its the quietness, alluring, southern bell in her. I can see lots of guys considering that 'mind bendingly' hot. I had a college roommate w/ a touch of a southern accent. In reality, she was from the midwest but grew up in the country...a bit of a plain looking tomboy honestly. I think the reason all the guys loved her was bc she could roll w/ them and she was remotely pretty, though she did have a nice feminine touch. That's kind of what I think of Emily too, especially when you throw in the racing stuff from her past. That and she's blonde (kind of the 'duh' characteristic for most men).
DeleteI don't see much of a distinction between the top two categories based on physical beauty alone, and wouldn't have thought Courtney rose to either of those levels. Maybe that is why the (mostly female) viewers are so bewildered -- she doesn't seem attractive enough to justify Ben losing his head. My theory is that being able to say you are a model artificially increases your attractiveness because it seems like evidence that other people think you're gorgeous, when really, as easycinderella wrote, it only necessarily means that you fit the height/weight requirements and photograph well.
ReplyDeleteI appreciate the analysis provided by Stacey B.'s colleague, but for long-term relationships, it doesn't match up with the actions of men that I know. Most men want the same thing as women -- a partner to whom they are attracted because of a combination of qualities that includes appearance, but is dependent more on non-physical traits like intelligence, character and shared values. However, I would believe you if you told me that the men that go on reality shows represent a smaller subsection of the male population that is more interested in appearance -- or short-term relationships -- than the rest of the population.
I am glad I am not the only one who thinks Courtney is not "Mind Bending Hot" Pretty, yes. However, I do wonder if Ben would think she is so gorgeous and wonderful if he knew her attitude on camera. For me, that makes her a lot uglier than she actually is.

ReplyDeleteYou have to post a vote here regarding Courtney and mind bending hot. Like someone else said even if she was nice she wouldn't fit into that category. The others mentioned are better looking than her. She just happens to be tall and thin.
ReplyDeleteThis whole argument is explored in the movie Basic Instinct. Which I happily snuck into once or twice back when I was in high school. Michael Douglas's character basically jumps into the sack with Sharon Stone and I guess he figures that she is hot enough to take the chance that she won't stick an ice pick through his face while having sex with her.

Last night, when asking my husband what he thought about Courtney's looks, he responded with "give her a British accent and she's a female Russell Brand." I thought that was too hilarious not to share.
ReplyDeleteCourtney looks like "Bucky Beaver" with those awful protruding front teeth--her facial expressions are awful--she has no character or charm about her. I dislike her and it makes me not think much of Ben for "falling for it" on the beach. At first I thought Ben was putting up with her, as any red blooded man would if it is offered to him on a plate--free and easy but now I wonder. He's nice when he's around nice girls but do they deserve what he's doing? Not so. Hope he picks the right one and is deserving of her.
DeleteI would never put Courtney as mind-bending hot. She is eye candy hot. And even that cools way down when she opens her mouth or does that weird thing she does with her mouth.
ReplyDeleteI thought Emily Maynard was Schmokin' Hot but only in the Women's Tell All did she show me some substance to go into mind bending hot.
Julianne Hough from Dancing with the Stars for example is, for me, mind bending hot. She fogs my glasses! And any of the pro lady dancers: Edyta, Chelsea Hightower, Anna Trebunskya and all the Russian ladies. Oh my! The blonde in the Troup (forget her name) with the super long hair. Mercy!
Did anyone happen to notice that a fish seemed to magically appear in the net when Ben and Kacie B. were trolling in the shallow water off their "deserted island"? One minute they are just stretching out the net, the next minute they have caught a fish large enough to accommodate their dinner needs. Wonder if the camera crew had seafood too...
